Memorial Day

A picture from my Grandpa Moore's Funeral. He was a veteran of World War II.

On Memorial Day they have a special ceremony at a Veterans Cemetery in the Boise area. This year we decided to take our boys. We want to instill in them, patriotism and respect for our blessed country. We wanted to talk about those who sacrifice everyday to keep us safe and free here in the United States. It was a great experience. They had a ceremony with some speakers, one being the governor of Idaho. They shot off canons in remembrance of those who have died for us and they also had a 21 gun salute followed by the playing of Taps on the trumpet. It was pretty powerful.
Both my Grandpa's and my Dad have served our country in one of the branches of the military. When my Grandpa Moore passed away they had a 21 gun salute and Taps played at his funeral. I couldn't help but reflect back to that day and think of him.
The whole ceremony was a special experience and my boys loved it and learned a few things that day. We hope to make it a regular tradition. It feels good to pay our respects to all those who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of the USA!

Some of the graves of fallen soldiers. Beyond that there was a wall covered with names of those who died for our country.

Tyson and the boys after the ceremony had ended and people were clearing out.

They played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes during a flyover of military jets. Pretty Awesome.

They had men dressed up like Civil War and First World War soldiers. They shot cannons off numerous times in remembrance of soldiers who have died for our country.

Good Job Rachelle for taking your boys to that. If only every Mom would do that!:)
