Duathlon

I think Matt might have found his niche.  He did his second race this past Saturday.....a duathlon.(1mile run/5 mile bike/1 mile run)  I am glad he has found something he enjoys.  Plus, I love that it is so flexible....unlike some organized sports.  Plus it's the kind of training that the family can be involved in.  Tyson takes him to the track with Kaleb and Ian and they all have fun.  We can ride bikes as a family which is something we like to do anyway.  Also, we can choose how often and what races he'll be involved in.  We get to the races around 8:30 and are heading back home by 10:30.  We still have a whole Saturday ahead of us! Having the event near the park is great because the kids just play while we wait and watch.  He got 6th place out of 17 in the youth course and I think his time was 37min 11sec.  Pretty
Awesome!  We are so proud of him!

Waiting anxiously to start.

At the starting line.

And they're off!

Coming in from the run to transition to the 5 mile bike ride.  Kaleb and a friend are cheering him on in the background.

Starting the bike portion

Transitioning from bike to run...last leg.

Coming into the finish!

Annnnnnd........he's over the line!  Finished!!

Ian and Kellen waiting for him to come back from the bike portion.

LOVE these boys!!

Waiting at the finish line.

Kellen and grandpa watching for Matt to head to the finish.

Kellen hung out with grandpa the whole time.  He was so tired his face looked like that the whole time.  I don't think he cracked a smile once.

Tyson and his mom.  I love this picture!

#1- For youth its $25 early registration and $30 Open registration. It is through the YMCA
#2-By the end of the year Matt will have done 3. He did one in early spring(It was a tri with running, swimming and biking)He just did the Duathlon and he will do the Fall Tri in October. They are all at camelsback park.
#3- They do have them througout the year. I am sure you can find more than what Matt did but three spread out is good for me.
#4- They have a 10 and under category but I'm not sure how young they go. It doesn't specify where I looked online. I'm sure Masaru is old enough. I'll let you know if I find out how young they can be.
