We try to have the missionaries over for dinner periodically, it seems to be about once a month. I LOVE to have them in my home. They are a great example to my boys. They bring a wonderful spirit with them. They are young, enthusiastic, positive and full of testimony. The light just seems to beam from them.
It is also sentimental for me. Growing up we had the missionaries in our home often. We had some good times and memories. They would stop by on a hot summer days to drink from our hose after pounding the pavement on their bikes. And it gets HOT in California! I remember them giving the discussions to my friend in my living room. I remember them playing with and teasing my siblings and I when we were little. We had one elder from England. He was pretty cool! One night, during dinner, my mom asked him to pass the rolls. He was across the table from her and he said, "Behold, a flying roll." and he tossed it to her. He said it was a verse in the scriptures. We kind of chuckled thinking he was kidding but, low and behold, he showed it too us. Who knew? We also had 2 sister missionaries in our ward for awhile. That was a lot of fun and I remember them being at our house often.
I admire all these young people.(I can't believe I'm calling them young like I'm old.) I admire their willingness to sacrifice and put life on hold to serve the Lord and share his gospel message. Thanks to all of them for setting the example for my boys.
Just tonight an Elder in our ward, Elder Smith, came by with his companion to say goodbye. He is being transferred and wanted to get a picture with our family. He set the camera on timer mode so we could all be in it. When I looked at the picture it took me back to the missionaries in my home growing up. I remember specifically a picture with the sister missionaries with us kids. I really did love it when they came over and still do today. The future of the church is in good hands with these young people. I see it and feel it when they come into my home. I'm grateful for that!

That's so great that you got along with these missionaries cause we usually feed them once a month as well but every time we sign up for these guys they cancel on us, so I don't really like them.
So good to see that some family in the ward does like them.
They haven't impressed me at all.
Feed the missionaries . . . hmmm, maybe I should think about that? It will only get more awkward as Sammi gets older, since she will be so close to them in age! We are not very reliable though, when it comes to dinner time. We never know when Charles will come home for dinner. :-) I am glad someone is feeding them, I am sure they are good for your boys!
Mari, we had them over when I was a teenager and I had my fair share of crushes on them for sure. ;) But, they always remained good, well behaved missionaries. I
With 4 little boys, I feel like it is a really good thing to have the missionaries over for dinner every few months. Then when they see them at church they feel a connection to them and what they are doing. I also like to think that maybe I'm paying it forward into the distant future when some other mom is making a meal for my missionary sons. :)
