12 years ago today Tyson and I were sealed in the San Diego Temple. Wow, that day is such a blur. I have a few particular memories but was mostly overwhelmed by it all. I was a blubbery mess in the sealing room so can only see that in my mind with a blurry vision. The feelings were emotional and special that's for sure but that's about all I remember. Anytime I go to a sealing I become a blubbery mess again. It is an awesome experience to relive and remember as I see others making the same covenants and commitments.
Our courtship was short and sweet. We met each other, became exclusive almost right away, and were engaged several months later. Tyson had served a mission and been home for over a year. I had been at school for 2 years and was at my sisters to work for the summer when I met Tyson.(It was at institute to be exact.)
Right off there was an attraction. How could I resist those huge blue eyes, anyone whose seen him without his glasses can attest to that, and that tall frame with those broad shoulders. Seriously, those were the first things that stood out to me. It got even better when he opened his mouth. I could tell he was a great guy. He struck up a conversation right away and helped me to feel at ease in a new place. I could tell he was nice, genuine, and funny.
Before I left to Hayden, where I met Tyson, my roommate said, "I bet your going to find someone to marry there." I laughed it off and thought, "I've been at Ricks College for two years and will be coming back after the summer. This is most likely where I'll meet my husband." Little did I know then.
When I look back I know that my purpose of living with my sister was to meet Tyson. Some people, not all, may be skeptical of the quickness of it. However, anyone who has faith and a testimony of the Holy Ghost knows that when the spirit prompts you, you know your doing the right thing. We both received confirmation of our future together. Once we got that confirmation we decided we know the answer so why put off the wedding. I'm not very high maintenance and far from a Bridezilla. I didn't have these huge elaborate visions of a wedding. I never really have. I always dreamed of a prince charming and getting married in the temple but not much about the reception, etc. So, the wedding and reception were planned in a few months. Thanks to my mom for all her scrambling. :)
The past 12 years have been a little bit of everything. Like most married couples you experience everything from the most joyous to the some of the hardest times you'll have. Our love for each other has grown deeper as we've grown together. Our commitment to each other and the Lord helps us through the hard times and makes the best times even sweeter.
I am amazed at the man Tyson has become. He has always been wonderful in my eyes but seeing him become a father, watching him love, lead and teach our children is one of the greatest blessings. I am not perfect and can be slightly difficult but Tyson is patient with me. He supports, loves and encourages me to be my best self. I am so glad to have him by my side through this life and the next.
Here are some of the things I love about Tyson in no particular order:
1. He loves his children and shows it by spending time with them.
2. He's a hands on dad.
3. He is always trying to better himself.
4. He loves the gospel.
5. He honors his priesthood.
6. He is always quick to serve others.
7. He makes me laugh.
8. He works hard to provide for our family.
9. He is good looking.....an obvious one!
10. His work ethic is awesome and a great example to my kids.
11. He loves me!!
12. He has a love of the great outdoors
13. He likes to experience new things. It brings balance to our relationship since I'm a little more timid.
14. He is a leader.
15. He is not judgmental and empathetic of people and their struggles.
I do LOVE my husband!! Happy Anniversary Tyson!!
