Epidural or No Epidural....That is the Question.

As time draws closer to the delivery of my baby I've been asking myself the question, "Epidural or Natural?" With my first I did it all natural , mostly due to the fact that it went so fast. By the time I asked for the epidural it was too late. Yes I survived but boy was it PAINFUL!!! With my second I got the epidural, which wore off on one side the last hour or so but it did spare me a lot of pain up to that point.
I've heard many people say that recovery is much faster if you haven't had the epidural. So I keep asking myself, "Do I take the excruciating pain so my recovery will be quicker or do I get the epidural and just chill till the pushing begins and have a longer recovery?" For those who read this blog, What do you think I should do? I'm just curious. Give me some feedback. Thanks.

Epidural, for sure. I almost didn't have time for one with Cole, but got it just in time. I ended up being completely numb in my left leg for 3 hours afterward, but I will still take that over the pain. Is the recovery time really so significant that you are not at the same stage of recovery when they discharge you from the hospital?
Hey, we miss you guys. I'll send you an invitation to my blog, in case you care.

The same thing happened to me. Epidural wore off on one side near the end, but I knew that it would have been a lot worse with both sides wearing off. Anyway...maybe it will happen so fast you won't have to make the decision-that's what I'm hoping will happen with mine :)

I say, No Epidural. It is your third, so the labor should be easier than the first any way. They also have a pain ease-er that they can give you-put in your IV if you choose to have an IV. The only reason I say this, is I am not having an epidural this time :) you know what they say, misery loves company :) But, without the epidural you can use the birthing tub and walk around.

I don't think I've ever commenting on here, but I do look from time to time. :) I say go with the epidural! I've had epidurals with both, and I don't think either of mine were long recoveries. I really think it has to do more with the position of the baby & such. I guess just go with what you feel is right & want to do, though.

Hey Rachelle!! Its Adele- Of course I remember you! How are you doing?? Congrats on #3 on the way! As for the epidural, I say... its your decision- I am doing no epidural but I also believe that no woman can tell another woman how she should do labor. Good luck! When are you due?

Recovery was faster for me without an Epidural, but the labor was more enjoyable with the epidural. Instead of getting excited about stages I just wanted it done. What is Tyson's vote?

Hey Rachelle,
I loved having the epidural. My labor was 14 hours, but not too much pain at all. Even recovery time seemed good. I don't think I could do it without one! Maybe I'm just a wimp, but I was crying at only 3 cm. Good Luck!

Epidural baby!!!! Why put yourself through the misery if you don't have to. I had complications with both my first and second labors but the third was so much easier and I really enjoyed being a part of things and remembering what happened because I wasn't in so much pain. But, you do whatever you want. Love you. BTW, when is the big due date?

I have had 1 epideral and 3 without. I never went into it thinking I wouldn't though. I always was like I'm getting one, but it just didn't work out that way. If you can avoid it, meaning if the labor is fast enough, I say go without. The recovery is much better. But you know, just decide when you you're there. Maybe it will be like my three and go so fast that it's a none issue, if not then you can decide when your there.
