A Success!

Matt's first swim meet was a success!  It was a lot of fun.  I was proud of how quickly Matt got the hang of the whole routine.  It is a little bit chaotic and slightly claustrophobic.  There were so many people and the venue wasn't very big.  Matt handled it like a pro and got where he needed to be when he needed to be there.  If anyone's been to a swim meet before you'll know what I'm talking about.  There were 86ish events because they have the groups split up by age : 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15 and up.  For example, if they are swimming the individual freestyle, they separate the event by age and gender.  So, they'll start with the 8 and under girls, then the 8 and under boys and move up through each age group.  It continues in this pattern throughout the freestyle and then it starts all over again with a different individual stroke or relays.  Maybe this made no sense but, oh well.  Anyways, it was a lot of fun and Matt didn't seem very nervous and gave it his best!  He swam the 100 yd relay (team of 4 swimmers and each swims 25yd),  50 yd Freestyle (individual), 50 yd breaststroke (individual) and the 100 IM relay. (That is where every stroke, back-breast-butterfly-free, is swam for 25yds.)  Matt swam the breaststroke in that one. Good job bud!!  It brought back great memories of being on the high school swim team and made me wish I would have done it longer.  I miss it!
