Kindness....we could always use more!

Small acts of kindness go a long way.  Every day people are fighting battles, many that you can't see.  Everyone has their struggles.  Sometimes we can be quick to judge.  I know I'm guilty of that at times.  I try hard not to because usually that first pass of judgement is not correct and I feel humbled later.
The other day I was talking to a friend about the fact that everyone has struggles and insecurities.  We spoke more specifically about women.  How awesome would it be if we could all help each other, lift each other, and not compare our insecurities and struggles and just realize we all need one another.

The other day I was at the grocery store and I was in my own little world.  I had my head down, scanning the cereal. A lady walking down the aisle toward me said, "That color blue looks great on you!"  At first I didn't know she was talking to me but then she said it again. I was totally surprised and actually touched.  I responded, "Thanks, that is nice of you to say."  She then gave me a high five.  I immediately thought of the conversation I had with my friend.  Her high five seemed almost like she was saying, "Yeah, that's right!  We're awesome and we should tell each other that!"  It made me smile and it made my day. :)

I thought about how many times I see someone and think something kind about their appearance or something they did but I keep it to myself, especially when I don't know them.  Maybe I should step out of my comfort zone and make more of an effort to lift others.  The comment from that woman felt good and it wasn't because I thought, "Wow, I'm so flattered. I do look good in blue."  Honestly, it had nothing to do with that. It was more about her efforts to be kind and lift another fellow traveler in this mortal life that touched my heart.  Whoever she is.....I appreciate and thank her for that.

I try hard to be like that woman.

I think it is especially good to try and do the same thing with our kids and spouses. I am often thinking how great Charles looks, or how adorable the kids are, but I forget to say it out loud, so they can hear.

There have been times when I have been out running, and just slogging along trying not to die, when someone will say, "You go Mama!" or "Wow, you are amazing!" It lifts my spirt and makes me feel alive again.

Words are powerful, we can do so much good with them!
