Humbled

I am feeling humbled a lot lately but that is a good thing right?  That's one of the many ways we learn and become more like our Heavenly Father. :)     In response to a recent post my sister left a comment that was good for me to read and had a lot of insight.  She is a spiritual giant and I respect her very much.  I'd like to share it because I think it's worth reading and thinking about.
She says....

I was raised in California and I have lived in Utah for the last 20 years. I can understand people's view of "Utah" but the"Utah" Mormon lives in every state. I have met many many Utah Mormons who are also as far away from the typical stereotype as you could imagine. The most interesting thing to me about it all is that we LDS women, no matter were we live or what our situation still find a way to politely find a dividing line. We find a way to categorize each other. The truth of the matter is we are all doing our best to be the best we can be given our own personal situations. Rather then have a conversation of peoples view of what Utah Mormons do differently we should try to focus on what they are doing the same, trying to raise happy and righteous children, help in their communities, serve in their church callings, be obedient to the commandments and so many more. When this happens I think we will be closer and closer to what our father in heaven desires for us to be...a Zion people.

Just one more thought. These women with the boobs and Tahoes live in Idaho right. They come to Utah to get work done because we have the " billboards" but live in Idaho. Why not call them Idaho Mormons. There are billboards in Vegas advertising all sorts of things. I am sure some of our members participate in those things but we don't call them Nevada Mormons. I think we need to call Mormons just that, Mormons. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. No precursor. The precursor is just something that causes division. It may appear that because I live in Utah I have a strong opinion of this. I am sure this contributes to my opinion because I know first hand of the good, humble, and kind members that live here but more then that I just think there is enough criticism about our religion and the women in it by those who look from the outside in that we should not contribute to it.

Great thoughts that I needed to hear. Although I told myself and you in my post that I wasn't judging the women I mentioned I probably was.  As my sister said there is enough criticisms from the outside looking in and we don't need to contribute to it.
A friend of mine  and I have had conversations several times about the fact that we as women need to be kinder and gentler to one another and judge less.  She is one of the least judgmental and accepting people.  Whenever we talk about that I think, "Yes, we need to love each other and support each other were we are."  Obviously I can improve in that area and will keep trying. :)

Thanks to my sister and friend for teaching me by your examples.

I feel like the older I get, the less I want to judge, and the more I want to love. Having a teenage daughter is very enlightening in that way. I often find myself giving her advice about how to treat people/not judge, and as a result, I end up teaching myself how I should act too! Also, more confidence in oneself = less judging of others. :-) We never know the battles people are going through -- no matter what they appear like on the outside. People are just people. Our job is to love people. As an almost 34 year old woman, I get that now! :-)
