While on our trip we hiked into a beach along Coeur d' Alene lake. The hike wasn't long but it was hot and I was toting Kellen in our backpack carrier. Tyson wasn't there otherwise he would have been the one carrying Kellen.
I don't think I've ever carried a child in the pack before since Tyson usually does it. It was super hot, probably the upper 90's, almost 100. The climb was steep. Within minutes into the hike I was sweaty, my back and hips were hurting from the pack and I was out of breath, feeling zapped of energy.
I turned to my mom and said, "How did the pioneers do it?" They had layers of clothing, babies on their hips, pulling handcarts, inappropriate shoes, little food at times. They did it for miles and miles, days and months, in all weather conditions.
Wow! I've always felt a sense of awe and respect for what they accomplished. I have no doubt the Lord sent Angels to help them carry their burdens, to lighten their load.
Such examples of faith and endurance. They put their faith in God and kept going even when it seemed almost impossible.
That 15 minutes on the trail was a killer not even close to what the pioneers did. Amazing!

Two words:
Boot camp
That'll help up those hills ;)
Ya what Melissa said....although you cant be like me and sleep through your alarm
The pioneers did it without boot camp, so yes, I agree -- they had angels helping them. If there is one thing I don't like to do it is carry the baby backpack on my shoulders. It is painful. I am sure you would have been much better off without it! It is always good to have those moments of appreciation for the pioneers though!
